Writer Needed!

Okay you all! One of my writers (Hannah) will be away for May and June. Hannah writes for the product review column two times a month. Currently I need one gal to write that column…..and I’m looking for candidates! Please note that this is only temporary and when Hannah returns she will be back on the product review team……….

What is the product review column you may ask? Well, it’s a column where girls write reviews of products that they were sent for free to keep and review! Products range from clothing, cookware, personal care products, to handbags and food!

Technical Difficulties

***Update****

I am very much well aware that our new theme is very boring and plain. But this is what it’s gonna have to be until I get all the bugs worked out on VG. (don’t worry they are not contagious!) What do you all think of this rather boring theme???

****Update***** it looks like the only thing that will fix this big old mess is to post alot of posts so that the theme will fix itself. So please bear with me as we try to fix this. Hopefully it will be fixed by the end of this week. Here so hoping……..

So, I get up this morning and get a e-mail saying that the pictures are messed up in two reviews that were posted. (sigh) I fix that. THEN I take one look at the blog and something happened to royally mess up the side bar and blog. As you can see it looks really awful and un-professional. I’m doing everything I can think of to try to fix it. (going back into posts and re-doing pictures, switching the theme around, ect, ect) and nothing absolutely nothing is working. AND I’ll be really busy today!

So please bear with me as try I fix the theme! Sorry it’s so messed up and un-professional looking! :( Something happened last night or this morning to mess it up……

Product Review: Two Leaves and A Bud

When Miss RJ asked me about doing a product review for this company, I was instantly intrigued by the cute name! My family and I were excited to receive a sampler package of tea to review. There were eighteen different flavors … one of each of the varieties that they carry. We boiled a pot of water, and everyone picked the flavor that they wanted to try.

Two Leaves And A Bud was founded in 2005 by Richard Rosenfeld. This company goes to the farms and gardens where the tea is grown. They interact with the farmers, and provide their customers with tea that tastes as if it has been plucked and steeped direct from the gardens. Fifteen of their tea varieties are organically grown. The tea leaves come in a pyramid shaped sachet, and are not crushed to a powder like many of the other tea bags that you can get from other companies. You can see the dried leaves, and some of them are colorful!

We enjoyed most of the flavors that we received … there were a couple that we didn’t care for as much, but that may just be personal preference. Some of our favorites included Mountain High Chai, Peppermint, African Sunset, and Gen Mai Cha. The last one is made with green tea and toasted brown rice, and had a unique nutty flavor.

We appreciated the quality of these teas. The strong flavors were a pleasant contrast to the tea that you can get from other companies. While the prices at Two Leaves And A Bud are higher than other places, I would recommend this company for premium quality products.

I love cold, grey, rainy days! I want to brew myself a steaming cup of tea, light a candle, grab a good book, and curl up in a pile of pillows! Anybody want to join me? :) Check back for a giveaway with them soon!

Product Review: Bridgewater Candles

Bridgewater Candle Company sent me two candles to review, I was sent Frankie’s Candle (on left) and Paradise Punch (on right).

Bridgewater Candle Company was established in 1997 (the year I was born!) in South Carolina.  They quickly became a leader in the candle market with a reputation for clean burning candles, full fragranced products and passionate sales team.

In June 2010 Bridgewater launched the Light a Candle Feed a Child Campaign. For every candle sold, Bridgewater donates money to Rice Bowls. For every Special  Edition candle sold, Bridgewater gives money to feed one child for one week, and for every Jar candle they give money to feed one children for one day.

Frankie’s Candle:

Frankie’s Candle- This candle is a Special Edition candle, and it has a sweet perfume type of smell.  It is not too strong when you start burning it, but after a while it does get stronger.  I really like the smell, but those in my family who are sensitive to certain perfumy scents, need the candle blown out after awhile, although they like the smell also.

This candle was inspired by a mothers love:In  Port-au-Prince, Haiti, an expectant mother knew she was not likely to survive long after childbirth. She prepared a bag for her child with his belongings and a bottle of her used perfume. She wanted her young son,  Frankie, to remember how she smelled. Inspired by Frankie’s  birth mother’s perfume, the vibrant rose, ylang and carnations are  enhanced with the warmth of vanilla and creamy sandalwood. When I got it, I was not sure if it would have too strong of a perfume smell, but as I said it does not.  My mother and sisters all enjoy the smell that this candle has.  This candle will burn for 50 to 60 hours. Paradise Punch:

Paradise Punch – This candle is a “jar candle” and it has a wonderful soft fruity smell!  The smell of Paradise Punch wants to pull you into the tropical land :)   I really like this one too! This candle can burn for 140 to 160 hours. You can purchase this candle for $20.00 if you Click here.

Although Bridgewater Candles may cost a little more than some candles, their quality is high and their desire to help hungry children a good goal worthy to be supported.  I thoroughly enjoy my candles along with being thankful that this company is trying to fulfill the scriptures. “…For I was hungry, and you gave me food…”  Matthew 25:35

A Virtuous Girl- HPI Part 3

Welcome to Part 3 of being a young woman of HPI (honest, purity and integrity). This week is purity. In this day and age being a young woman of purity is such a difficult task. All around us we are bombarded with all sorts of influences from hollywood, newspapers, magazines, the internet and the world around us. It is hard to watch even a PG movie without there being language, suggestive clothing and sexual innuendoes. Often in the “clean” movies there is little respect for others, wives for their husbands, husbands for their wives, children for their parents, or just even for people in general. We are constantly seeing images of how we are told we should dress, how thin we need to be, how much makeup we should wear, and how we should act and think. At times it is so difficult to live a life of a young woman set apart for God. Don’t ever feel defeated, don’t let the enemy get the upper hand. Our heavenly Papa is right there by our side helping us o see us through. We need to fill our minds with the word of God.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8 NIV)

There is more to purity than just saving your self for marriage and dress. There is also purity of thought. This is one of my greatest struggles. In one of the Bible Study I teach to middle school aged kids I have an object lesson of a blender. You can put so much good into a delicious smoothie, berries, oranges, a little sorbet, some honey, all of those are delicious and good but it’s so easy to add in a little bit of bad. One time watching a movie that you know you shouldn’t have, there goes in a little black pepper, talking back to your parents, I add a little dirt. Then I bend it up and ask if any of them want to try it. The response, is “No, yew, that’s gross!” I then remind them that in their lives they may put in many good things, going to church, reading your Bible, helping younger siblings, respecting their parents but every time they do some little or big thing that isn’t glorifying to God it gets mixed in with all the good. There are still second chances to start over; God’s is ready to offer forgiveness if you repent and ask. I like how in the movie Anne of Green Gables, Anne says, “Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it.” Or as Miss Stacy said, “No mistakes in it yet.” We aren’t perfect, we will make mistakes but when we keep our eyes focused on God and immerse ourselves in his word it will become a part of us. Let’s all strive to be young women of purity.

How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. (Psalm 119:9)

Saving Money, Living More Part 5

In our society we are told not to deny ourselves anything. We are told to just charge anything that we want to the card and pay it off later.

But we know that such thinking leads to bankruptcy and hardship. One of the keys to saving money is to get out of this mindset. Here are several things to get you started.

Have a budget. Plan out what you have to spend and how much you want to save. Having a plan will give you something to work towards.

Think about things before you buy them. Rarely should you buy anything (even if it’s on sale) unless you need it or unless you have thought it out carefully. You can avoid a lot of useless spending by simply thinking through your reasons.

Go on a spending fast. Take some time where you don’t spend any money. This can give you an insight into why you spend money and how you spend it.

Plan for special occasions. If you know that you are going on a trip or having a day on the town set aside an amount of money for that time. And once you’ve spent that money, don’t spend anymore.

There’s a lot of things that you can do with money. Hopefully I’ve given you some ideas about how to use your money wisely. Find out what works best for you.
