Squid Balm was created for a little girl, nicknamed Squid, who had serious allergies and itch. Her Mother worked and worked to come up with a product that her little sweetie could use – that’s dedication! From all her hard work, Squid Balm was created – first the solid lotion, then the other (fabulous) products followed. EVERYTHING from Squid Balm is hand-made in California!
Before I even opened the box, I could smell the soap! It honestly smelled good enough to eat! (And, judging by the quality of ingredients, you probably could, ha!)
It was packaged so very nicely – you could easily order these as gifts and be assured they would arrived wrapped up like little presents!
Here are the products I received (from top left to bottom right):
- Lemon Drop Exfoliator Soap ($8)
- Squid Squeak Solid Shampoo Bar in Tangerine (Original Formula, $7)
- Plum Wine Avocado Oil Soap ($8)
- Squid Balm Solid Lotion Bar in Pink Grapefruit ($12)
- Squid Silk Solid Conditioner Bar in Wild Blueberry ($7)
- Gentle Oil Cleanser, for oily to combination skin, ($14)
No joke, this one smells so good! It made my entire bathroom and bedroom smell fantastic. The scent is not perfumy or heavy or anything like that – just a fresh, sweet smell. This soap, which you can find here, lathers nicely – like any chemical-filled store bought soap – and leaves you feeling clean. The scent does not linger on your skin, if that’s something you worry about (like me!)
I love the way the top of the soaps look! Like mountains…
A quick glance at the ingredients…yep – all good!
Let’s chat quickly about the other products – I love the Lemon Drop exfoliating soap - it’s a gentle exfolaitor, nothing like soaps you can purchase at big stores. (PSA – did you know that usually those exfolaitors are polyethylene – that’s plastic! BOOO!)
The Squid Squeak Solid Shampoo Bar – I have never heard of such a thing! BUT AMAZING! It’s just like shampoo from a bottle. But – no chemicals. AND NO BOTTLE!
In addition, a little goes a long, long way, so you can use one bar for a long time! (Just don’t let it sit in the shower and melt away!) Right now, they are having a sale on the shampoo bars – buy three for $21 and get one free! Check it out! It definitely gets your hair squeaky clean, and gentle enough for little ones – I used it on my two year old.
The Squid Silk Solid Conditioner bar – again, whoa! Conditioner with no bottle! This is another case of a little goes a long, long, looong way. The first time I used it, I didn’t ‘feel’ it in my hair like you do a liquid conditioner – so I kept putting more and more on my hair. Um…oops! My hair was pretty greasy, but I learned my lesson – less is more. It washed out just fine with the shampoo bar, and I used just a little (like rubbed it on my hands and pulled my hands through my hair – you cannot tell it’s there), and my hair was silky soft. You can find it on this page, here.
The Gentle Oil Cleanser, which you can find here was the product I was most wary of. I mean – oil, to clean my face?!? Won’t that cause breakouts? I can most assuredly tell you that for me, it did not. I’ve been using this cleanser for well over a week and have suffered none of the breakouts I was afraid of – in fact, my skin looks and feels fantastic! I thought it would leave an oily residue – it doesn’t – in fact, my skin feels fresh and clean and lovely after washing with it! If you’re wary (like I was), they offer a $4 trail size. I think you should try it out and see for yourself if you’re sick of commercial cleansers. This might just be the right one for you.
Last, but not least, the product that started it all – the Squid Balm Solid Lotion Bar. Again, this was kind of uncharted territory for me – check it out:
It’s totally solid and I thought it would be like body butter – that you’d have to take a little out. But it doesn’t work that way! You just run it between your hands like soap and it distributes quickly – I did the same on my arms, etc. The scent, Pink Grapefruit, was light and disperses quickly – and the lotion lasts and lasts. I was impressed with how many washings it holds up through – and I wash my hands A LOT!
Another thing that’s fantastic about these products is because they’re all solid – they can go in your carry on if you’re travelling somewhere. No little bottles to buy or worry about exploding – your shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion all can come right on the plane with you.
I definitely recommend these products – for you, or as a gift!
