The N Version

March 28th, 2008

With permission I share the following:

Yesterday morning N was reading the Bible; here is what she read:

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord and he shall sustain thee: he shall never stuffed animal the righteous to be moved.” ( It should have been suffer!!!!!!!!!!) She was reading Psalm 55:22. Mom and Dad looked at each other and chuckled, “Stuffed animals?” Then B helped her with the word and we all enjoyed the humor of N’s guessing in her reading practice.

Oh and today it was Psalm 57:1:

” Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these carnival be past.” She meant calamities this time!!!! It is like our daily dose of laughter at the breakfast table. ;)

And A was helping me put the tupperware away and she walked in the room to mommy and said ” I help put pupper away!” Don’t children come out with the cutest things!

Well, I had better go; we have a lot to do in preparation for Liberty Day.

P.S. Hope that brings a smile to your face :)

Sewing Fun!

March 19th, 2008
Well, we have been sewing costumes for Liberty Day. Mine is The Fashion Historian, B’s is a colonial style dress with roses down the front, flounce type sleeves that have lace and ribbon on them (our own creation ). N’s is the same, but she has a flounce around her waist. The boys’ outfits are done, as they were easy! Mom made most of theirs. They are an army jacket with matching pants and hats. A’s is a cute dress with an eyelet skirt beneath the skirt and it has lace at the collar and at the waist. Mom and Dad are not going to dress up……… maybe next year.

I hope to make a burgundy colored dress like the girls for next year. It should be pretty easy to make by myself; at least I hope so. Then mom only has to make outfits for B & the boys for next Liberty Day, as theirs just fit them this year. Perhaps Mom will make herself and Dad costumes since she will not have as many to make……. maybe :)

I just love sewing! I will post pictures of the finished costumes for you all! Lord willing, they will be done soon.

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful day!

H.H

P.S. Thanks T.J. for the use of the costume for S.R.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recipe Of The Week #4

March 17th, 2008

Okay, for this week I will post our delicious oven french toast! And it is so easy! We got this recipe from Family Life Today’s website a few years ago when my Dad heard Mr. Rainey share it on his radio program.

French Toast

12 eggs

1 loaf of bread

cinnamon

1 stick of butter

1-1/2 cups brown sugar

1 cup milk

First, melt the stick of butter in the oven in a 9×13 pan. Then add 2 cups brown sugar and press into bottom of pan with a fork. Next layer the bread. Next beat the eggs in a bowl and shake in cinnamon with the eggs and add milk. Then pour over the bread. Cover with foil and cook for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Recipe Of The Week #3

March 10th, 2008

Well, this week it will be pizza!

Pizza

4 cups warm water

2-3 TBSP sugar or honey

10 tsp. yeast

8 TBSP olive oil

2 TBSP salt

12 cups white flour or half whole wheat, half white.

Put the yeast, water, olive oil, salt, and 3-6 cups of the flour in a large bowl and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir. Gradually add the rest of the flour while kneading it in. Once dough is elastic-y and in a ball, let set for 5 minutes. Sprinkle cornmeal on 4 cookie sheets, then spread dough on them. Bake for 4-5 minutes, take out of oven and spread sauce over them. Then add toppings that you like. Lastly, add mozzarella cheese. Bake until cheese is melted then…. presto, pizza! We have even made three pizzas, using the last pizza dough for bread sticks.

For bread sticks we just form the bread sticks, spread butter over them, sprinkle with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese. If you have extra sauce, it makes great dipping sauce!

A Little Boy’s Prayer

March 8th, 2008

This morning during devotions Dad asked little brother #2 to pray. Well, he did and here is his prayer:

Dear God,

Please help me to be BIG and strong so I can tackle big brother and he cannot tackle me!

I cannot remember what else he said but we all got a kick out of that first line!!!!!!!!!!! Hope it gives you a laugh today.

His Handmaiden

Noah Estes

March 7th, 2008

We go to a little boy’s blog, whose name is Noah Estes. He is very sick and has been from birth. He was born on August 10th, 2006. He is very sweet (even though we have not met him, we have seen him in pictures). He is the second youngest of eight children. We pray for him every night. They would covet your prayers! And he needs them. He is doing okay right now, and is finally walking!

Well I had better go,

Books & Stuff

March 6th, 2008

We have been quite busy this week with Noah and everything else. We also got a book order from our family’s business Faith and Family Books. Yeah!!!!!!!! But in spite of all this busyness I had time to pick up Harvey Newcomb’s book, How To Be A Lady and was reading the chapter on Family and read this: “The happiness of a family depends very much on the conduct of the daughters. If they can make the home sweet and pleasant. If they are sweet-tempered and amiable, kind and obliging, home will be a very happy place indeed!” How true this is! We as daughters MUST be as strong pillars fit for a palace. Like my father is always reminding us to live up to our covenant calling. It is so hard to do sometimes but if we want a happy home, we have to do that!

Mom has been reading , So Much More by Anna Sophia and Elizabeth Botkin, to us girls. I just love it! It is such a good book! We have only 3 chapters left to go. :( I am hoping mom will let us start Letters To A Daughter by W. B. Sprague next! I love good books ;) In fact, our entire family does!!!!!!!! I guess that happens when the line of generations in your family lineage all love books. :) My grandfather was actually a book salesman, too.

Sis #1 has a birthday coming up in a week so we will busy next week, too. I guess I do not have to worry because I have her present made already. (Sigh of relief ) I cross stitched a bookmark for her.

I wonder what is up with the blog: With All Of Thy Heart? I keep trying to check it, but the link will not work - at least at my site! Well, I tried googling it and it still did not work even when their link was right at the top! Any one else having trouble???? Maybe it is just the computer, though, because the laptop will let me check it just fine.

Well, I had better go for the day.

The Shepherd of Bethlehem

March 6th, 2008

Some of you may have read The Giant Killer by A.O.L.E; well, The Shepherd of Bethlehem is by the same author. It is a story about a minister who he teaches lessons about David the shepherd. The story is filled with God providing, the weapon of prayer, overcoming evil, temperance, and much more!

Some of the characters are Matty - the poor servant girl in the house - where Mr. Eardly and Edwin (his younger brother) board, Richard and Julias Maxwell - two brothers who, by listening, go from fighting to getting along!

In the end, many of the people to whom the minister spoke to on that cold rainy day………………….. I will let you read the book!

It is a wonderful story! And I have enjoyed listening to Daddy read aloud to us, as a family, at night together! I am sure that if you liked The Giant Killer you will like The Shepherd of Bethlehem!

A Young Girl’s Life

March 4th, 2008

A Young Girl’s Life

A young girl’s life is like a rose,

When she is a child, she is a bud;

She must be trained in the ways of the Lord,

So she will become a godly woman,

For once she’s grown, she’ll be a rose in bloom.

She must keep herself pure for her future spouse,

Growing more in the knowledge of the Lord

Each and every day,

And also studying to become

A Proverbs 31 maiden,

So her inward beauty will never fade!

Recipe Of The Week #2

March 3rd, 2008

Sorry about not posting; we have been pretty busy!

For this week’s recipe I decided to do blueberry cake, which is a great breakfast food, especially if you have a sweet tooth!

Blueberry Cake

Crumb Topping (optional):

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 TBSP flour

4 TBSP butter, softened

1 tsp cinnamon

Mix together with hands and sprinkle over cake before baking.

Cake:

1/2 cup canola oil

2 eggs ( beaten)

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup milk

1 -1/4 cup sugar

2 -1/4 cup flour

3 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. salt

2 cups blueberries, frozen or fresh (If you are a blueberry lover like us, you can add more)

Directions:

Mix together wet ingredients; add flour, salt and baking powder. Then add 2 cups blueberries. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-55 minutes. It really does not matter what pan it is baked in. The original recipe called for a bundt pan, but we do not have one. I have used a 9 x 13, a stoneware bar pan and even loaf pans.

This recipe works better doubled, especially for a big family!
