Writing Tips: 10 Things Every Writer Must Have And Do
1. Always have something to write on with you; you never know when you will get inspired.
2. Have good baby name book. This has always helped me when I need a name and can’t think of one.
3. Have some time to just observe people; this will help you make better characters.
4. Have some magazines around; they are always helpful to get ideas out of.
5. Have something in your room that reminds you of your current book. Whether that is a picture, a figurine or whatever, keeping your book in mind is important.
6. Have a good set of encyclopedias and/or access to the web 24/7 so that can always look things up.
7. Watch movies and/or look at books with lots of pictures to get ideas on how to describe things.
8. Don’t sit behind your computer or in front of your pen and ink all the time, this will stifle your creativity.
9. Have a love for museums and history; if you don’t already, then develop a love for it. There is so much writing material in museums and history to be had.
10. Have some good friends that are willing to smear the red ink all over your story (Hi Jessica, Eliza and Arianna!).
What are some things you like to have around?

Tip Of The Week, Virtuous Girlhood | Comments (3)Hints And Tips On Making Scones
Hints and Tips on Making Scones:
Use fresh ingredients, especially baking soda and baking powder, as it is essential to perfect biscuits.
Sift all the ingredients to aerate the flour, making lighter scones. Always measure first and then sift the flour. Sifting adds lightness and removes large lumps.
Only use butter and use it straight from the refrigerator. Cut first into small cubes, then add to flour.
Knead gently with your fingertips until dough just comes together. Don’t over handle the dough as will make your scones tough and rubbery.
Don’t use too much flour when you roll out your dough.
Use a sharp cutter on dough. Do not twist cutter; it causes unevenly risen, lopsided scones. Scones can be cut into any shape you desire. Use a drinking glass to make circles, or cut into squares or wedges with a knife. Dip the edges of the cutter in flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Do not pat the edges of the scone down; instead leave the cuts as sharp as possible to allow the scones to rise in layers.
Place cut scones close together on tray to encourage rising, but not spreading. For soft-sided biscuits, bake them with the edges touching. For crusty-sided biscuits, bake them 1/4 to 1/2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
A hot oven is essential to cook evenly risen, golden-brown scones with crisp crusts.
Bake dough immediately after making.
Scones should be eaten within a couple of hours of baking.
Freezing Scones:
Freezing baked scones: When the scones are cool, wrap airtight and hold at room temperature for up to one day or freeze to store longer. To reheat, unwrap scones (thaw wrapped, if frozen) and place onto a baking sheet. Bake in a 350 degrees oven 8 to 10 minutes or until warm.
Freezing unbaked scones: When the dough is made and patted into circles or cut into 8 wedges/circle, put on a cookie sheet and place, uncovered, in the freezer. It will take about an hour for the dough to freeze firm. Once the dough is firm, put frozen scones into a zip-lock bag and return them to the freezer.
When you are ready to bake, simply take out as many as you want, and let them sit on the kitchen counter on a piece of foil or parchment paper while you preheat the oven. They should only be allowed to thaw as long as it takes the oven to preheat.
Once the oven is preheated, put the scones onto a fresh sheet of parchment paper and bake. It will be necessary to extend the baking time by a few minutes (it could easily add up to 4-5 minutes to the baking time—just add it in 2 minute increments until you are sure of your times)
I cannot remember where or what friend sent this to me but I did not write it!

Family Life, Life At Home, Recipes, Reviews, Tip Of The Week, Virtuous Girlhood | Comment (0)Nail Polish Recipe
Nail polish comes in thousands of different shades and colors, but sometimes the one you’re looking for just isn’t there! Or maybe you don’t want to pay a ton of money for something you’ll only use a few times. So why don’t you get crafty and make your own nail polish!
I know it sounds a little extreme, but if you like to get creative, this is the project for you. Make sheer pink glitter, sparkly sunshine yellow, or anything that strikes your fancy. Here are the ingredients you will need:
1 paper envelope
1 bottle white or clear nail polish
1/2 to 1 teaspoon finely crushed powder eyeshadow or as needed ( you choose the color!)
1/3 teaspoon fine glitter (optional)
Start by making a tiny funnel by snipping off a corner of the envelope. Open the bottle of nail polish and position the funnel over the top.
Pour the eyeshadow and the glitter together into the nail polish bottle (use the funnel). Mix well with a small wooden stick. You can also close the bottle and shake well.
That’s it! Enjoy your nail polish!
Blessings,
~RJ
