Little Siblings
Today A looked kind of sad because the 3 “musketeers” were not letting her play; so I went into our room and brought out our AG paper dolls! She just brightened right up!
Here are some ideas for playing and taking care of your siblings, and / or children that you might take care of or babysit:
- Play games, such as Duck, Duck, Goose; Hide and Seek; Tag (if outside); Red Light, Green Light; and Simon Says; card games, such as: Go, Fish and Memory. Board games I suggest include Life (I know my siblings like it and it is easy for them; they just need help with the money part), Right Turn, Left Turn, and any other games that they might like. Just think about their ability to follow the game when making a selection as the point is to make it fun for them.
- Read to them. See my post HERE about good books for younger and older children.
- Paper dolls. They are fun and easy to play with; check out some , here at Dover Publicatons (they are relatively cheap and beautiful, though there are a few that have low-cut ladies’ gowns). Here are two other sources, at Rainbow Resources Barnes And Nobel (they might be more expensive) and here at Miller Pads and Paper, which are cheaper. You can also use old Vision Fourm catologs, American Girl catalogs, A Life of Faith catalogs, and any other catalogs and flyers that can be used to make paper dolls! Oh, and if you want to use your imagination, crayons, paper, and/ or markers and colored pencils, scissors, and glue - you can make your own!
I hope that gives you some creative ides for taking caring of your siblings or other children!
Blessings,
R.J.
Please ask your parents’ permission BEFORE cutting out any of the catalogs and have a garbage bag handy!
Family Life, Life At Home, November 2008, Seasons, Siblings, Virtuous Girlhood | Comments (2)Movie Review- The Hiding Place
Please note that this is a little late! As ”This Sunday” was back in October :O
This Sunday we watched the The Hiding Place. We were not able to go to church, due to coughs
Here is a little bit about it-
The Hiding Place is a wonderful story of God’s love, care, and mercy. Miss Corrie Ten Boom is a wonderful example of Christ’s love. So, is her sister Betsy. But one day their life is shattered when World War Two begins. And the Nazis begin to persecute the Jews. A Jewish baby is brought to them; it is sent away, too. Then an elderly man is brought to them and they safely get him sent away, too. Then they build the… Hiding Place! And bring in more Jews to hide. Then one day, Germans come and take the Ten Booms away to the concentration camp. Corrie and Betsy are separated. But they find each other again - only by the grace of God. Follow them as they work in the camp and tell the other women about the grace of God. Our little ones watched this movie, but I would advise you parents out there to preview it first before showing it to your little ones. My younger siblings enjoyed it very much! It showed them just how wicked the heart can be! Mom and Dad also liked it. I would give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5. A very good movie!
Well, enjoy your day!
Blessings,
R.J.

Tampering with Temptation by Various Authors (a Grace And Truth Book)
The first story in this wonderful little book is called “Young Martin and the Silver Sixpence.” It is about Martin, a young boy, who learns that “the finder’s keepers” rule may work for some things, but not for all; and that stealing and cheating in little things leads to stealing and cheating in bigger things.
The second story is called “Farmer Goodwin’s Rule.” It is about bad friendships and how they can start to ruin even the most carefully trained child. You will follow young Randy as he makes friends with Larry and Scott. Larry is the kind of friend that you want and urges Randy not to follow Scott, but Scott urges and name-calls till Randy agrees and follows Scott into sin.
The third and final story is called “Albert and Herbert.” It is about two boys from strict religious families who go to a boarding school and become friends with one another. At that good christian school there are boys who mock the teachers, swear and do wicked things behind the teachers’ backs. Herbert falls into their clutches and is very sorry to have listened to them. One day, Albert finds out about it and urges him to get away from them. Herbert wants to but does not, for the boys are already teasing him and calling him a coward. Albert, however, is very sad about his friend’s choices. He grows up to be successful young man and blesses his godly parents. But poor Herbert, the fool, grows up to be a drunkard, swearing, ungodly gambler and young man. This story also deals with peer pressure. It is a must read for any struggling young man or woman, boy or girl, and any struggling family! I give this book 5 out of 5.
Have a great day!
Blessings,
R.J.

Family Life by Kelci Marie Phelan
Friends I need and friends I have,
To encourage, help and love,
To point me ever upward,
To my glorious home above,
Friends are flowers, so they say,
But what about families, too?
Don’t family members help us,
To grow in what we say and do?
Friends are important, yes,
But families, better still,
They help greatly to weed out,
The private wants and will.
Our fathers guide and protect,
Our sisters love and care,
Our brothers help and encourage,
Our mothers are always there,
Oh! The joys of a family,
Are often too deep to tell,
The simplicities and the trials,
The hugs that love spells,
Gratitude for friends,
Is a blessing in itself,
But, oh, the joys of family life,
Are an everlasting wealth!

I also took the Jane Austin Quiz and am:
You are Emma Woodhouse of Emma! You like being the queen of your social circle (small and provincial as it may be), and feel it’s your duty to help those less influential than you. You often meddle in the affairs of others, though you do it with a pure heart. You are often deluded in your flights of fancy, but your good intentions and creative spirit make you someone anyone could like.
You can take the quiz HERE.

Family Life, January 2009, Life At Home, Virtuous Girlhood | Comment (0)Samantha An American Girl
Please note that this reveiw has been sitting in my drafts folder since Spetember 1st, 2nd or 3rd of 2 years ago!! :O
On Wednesday we watched Samantha and it was very good! However, we do not really agree with her Aunt Cornelia and women’s rights, but you cannot agree with everything in things, right??
Here is a little bit about the movie:
Samantha is a 10 year old growing up during 1904 and is learning to be a “lady” when she notices the Ryland’s new servants next door….. a family with a father and 3 girls. One of the girls is Nellie. Nellie and Samantha soon become fast friends. Then Samantha goes away to New York with her Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia. Her Uncle Gard discovers that her friend Nellie and her younger sisters are living in an orphanage! Will Samantha’s wit help get Nellie, Bridget, and Jennie out?? Well, you have to watch it to find out!
Blessings,
His Handmaiden,
R.J.
